He and his recruits were involved in a skirmish just across the street from I live today, a few miles outside of Dyersburg Tennessee. They were surprised by the 6th Illinois Cav. who were stationed outside of Dyersburg at the time. The family’s property that they were camped out on at the time were kin to me. One of the daughters typed a letter before she died detailing the skirmish, she was in her 80’s when she typed it but was just a little girl when the battle took place. I know Faulkner escaped because it’s said he took off through the Parkers corn field (Parker’s were a prominent family around here back then). I know that he was captured at Island 10 during the fall of 1862, but this would have been a few months after the Confederate garrison’s defeat there.
