That is really interesting that men from the 1st KY Infantry enlisted with Woodward. The Union War Department clerks got the unit designation incorrect however as the 2nd KY Cavalry (Woodward's) did not form until January-February 1863. That is according to the records of the KY Adjutant General's report on KY units in the war. Prior to that, from the taking of Clarksville, TN in the summer of 1862 through Parker's Crossroads in December under Nathan Bedford Forrest, Woodward's command was entitled Woodward's KY Battalion. This was a two company organization as of December. Woodward's Battalion morphed into his 2nd KY Cavalry.
