Pride in my ancestor

One of my gg-grandfathers service: Joshua O. Johns - enlisted in Co.E 8th Louisiana infantry July 1861. He was in several engagements with the 8th and later became a courier-scout on Jackson's staff. He was wounded at Chancellorsville while serving with Jackson. Transferred to Co.C 39th Battalion Virginia cavalry as scout-courier in December 1863. At Appomatox, he was on Lee's staff as courier. He, along with Col. Marshall, was Lee's escort to McLean's house for the surrender negotiations. Research does pay-off!
