Union Prisoner of War Records

My ancestor,Sifferan Couty was a Private in Company D
2nd Louisiana Calvary. He was captured ,March 26, 1864 and received as a Prisoner of War in New orleans on 3/26/1865.
He was subsequently admitted to the USA General Hospital in New Orleans whereupon he died of varioloid fever. His body
was transferred and exchanged at Red River Landing On July
22,1864. I need help in finding out the disposition of his body as there is no record of his family receiving his body and or where he is burried. Any suggestions on how and where to obtain this data would be appreciated
