Colonel J. C. Lewis, 25th LA

Am trying to find out who this colonel was. He was killed in action in Georgia in 1864. His service record does not say where he came from. The companies of this regiment were from outside New Orleans (per Art Bergeron's fine book (free plug, Art)), but the 2 other colonels of the regiment were New Orleans lawyers. In the LA censuses I've found several possible J.C. Lewis', but cannot tell which one (if any) is the colonel. Any help would be appreciated.
