Re: New Book - "Dark and Bloody Ground"

I just purchased this book recently and enjoyed it very much. I was particularly looking for a book describing in new and additional detail the battle of Mansfield, LA. This book only devotes one chapter (22 pages) to the engagement; however, the account of Mouton's Assault, and specifically Gray's Brigade, is one of the best I've read.

The subtitle of the book is misleading, "The Battle of Mansfield and the Forgotten Civil War in Louisiana", leading the reader to believe that the primary focus of the book is the battle of Mansfield. There are some historical and geographical inaccuracies in the book, as well, which would not present a problem for an experienced WBTS reader, but might be quite confusing to a new reader.

Anyone buying this book should consider it a history primarily of Richard Taylor's forces and actions in Louisiana, rather than, a thorough account of the battle of Mansfield.

What are the recommendations from this board for the best and most thorough accounts of Mansfield and Pleasant Hill?
