Young's Point, Louisiana
In Response To: youngs point,la. ()

I went on a day trip into Louisiana out of Vicksburg about 5 years ago hosted by the "Friends of the Vicksburg Campaign" organization. Terry Winschell who is the Chief Historian at Vicksburg National Military Park was our tour leader [along with Ed Bearss].

My recollection is that Young's Point reverted to farm land and is used as such today. And the river levee where the Federal soldiers were buried may have been shifted or changed considerably since the war. Young's Point is located north of I- 20 along the west bank of the Mississippi. Remains of the Federal soldiers who died in camp of disease were removed to the National Cemetery at Vicksburg after the war.

You should contact Terry directly to verify all of this. See their website: http://www.nps.gov/vick/home.htm
