This unit is indeed a "mysterious" one. When I was working on my book on Louisiana Confederate units, I found virtually nothing about its history, and I don't know the first name of Captain Dubecq. Maybe Steve Mayeaux will read this and be of assistance. The company was organized at Marksville in 1863 and served as a headquarters guard in the District of Western Louisiana. This duty involved not only protecting the commander of that district but also carrying dispatches for him. Camp Braxton Bragg No. 196 was a United Confederate Veterans camp in Thibodaux.
