Looking for my grt-grandfather, John Eichler/Eikler..born in Germany abt.1840..fought with the 29 NY Inf. and the 16th NY Cav. during the Civil War, married Mary Jane Howery 1871 Kanawha County WV. Left his family and supposedly moved to New Orleans mid 1870's and became well to do. He wrote to my grandmother (probably 1880's) wanting her to come live with him.
