Re: Deramus - 19th La. Infantry Co. K

I have family buried in that cemetery. The Solomon S. Cole of Company I, 28th Louisiana Infantry, whose headstone photo is available on that same site, was a 1st cousin of my 2nd great-grandfather, also named Solomon S. Cole. My 2nd great-grandfather had a brother named Phillip Cole. I believe he is the Phillip Cole of the 1st Battalion Louisiana Cavalry Scouts who is buried at the Alexandria National Cemetery.

Many of the Cole family stayed loyal to the south to the end but many also served, after Confederate service, with the 1st Louisiana Scouts. I wonder if this man has a connection to them in any way. Is it possible there was a pro-union movement take root in that area?
