Major James E. Trimble

I wish to have additional information about my husband's g.g.grandfather, James Etherington Trimble. Based on a bio from Williams College in MA, he entered the Confederate army and was assigned duty as military engineer with rank of First Lt. of Cavalry. He was transferred to Assistant Adjutant-General's department as chief of staff under General D. Provence. He died in Farmerville, Louisiana. Can anyone tell me where I should look? Thank you.
