Thanks Tiger, for your interesting comments.
My ancestor survived the debacle at Hendersons's Hill and served on till the end of the war, with his surrender documents listing a date as 5/26/65.
An elderly cousin told me many years ago that her grandmother remembers going by wagon to the periphery of the battle at Mansfield(?) and praying that her husband, my ancestor, would not be killed.
I was hoping that one of the readers of this site had an ancestor in the 2nd and could dialog about it.
