Point Lookout Prison

I live near the Point, and if anybody has any questions about an ancestor they thought may have been there (or any other questions), I would be glad to try and answer them.
A reference book I have, written by a local historian, lists La. troops as having been imprisoned there, and at least 38 of those troops died there under very severe conditions.
This place is unique, in that it is the only place in the country that I know of where there is a federal monument to Confederate soldiers and sailors. I believe this monument was placed there because of a certain amount of guilt among the federal authorities due to the horrible conditions and the number of deaths, (approximately 3,500 total).
