Hello Ruth: I would suggest checking the 1860 census for Ascension and Assumption parishes for more family info. Then you can go to the State Archives on Essen Lane in Baton Rouge or contact them for a copy of his compiled service record. They also have pension records there. If he or his wife happened to file for a pension, there is a wealth of family info there. Roy
