I was just browesing the messages and found yours. My ggrandfather served in the civil war from Selma Alabama for 4 years wounded several times, and as I did his research I found that he aplied for a land grant along the Texas La. border and finally got 150 acres in Many La. I recently applied for a confederate headstone and got a typical military { meaning rounded headstone }. When I called the V.A. about the headstone they told me he had sworn an oath to the United States at his capture and had received a land grant by presidential decree aworded to only U.S. citizens.I think you can find these records at the state arcives. Let me know if this is what your looking for.
