USS Arizona Civil War Gunboat Foundation

The U.S.S. Arizona Civil War Gunboat Foundation is a 501 (c)(3)tax-exempt member of the Arizona Community Foundation. This organization was established in 1999 to: locate and secure the final resting-place of the Arizona and other Union and Confederate vessels lost during the Civil War. The Foundation works toward the goal of artifact preservation, placing sites on the National Registry of Historic Places, promoting the history of each vessel, and develop educational material for primary and secondary education.

The USSACWGF has gained the support of U.S. Congressman Billy Tauzin (LA.), U.S. Congressman Richard Baker (LA.),
Barbara Voulgaris (Acting Branch Head, Naval Historical Center, Washington D.C.), Adrienne Berney (Curator of Material Culture, State of Louisiana), and Laurel Wyckoff (State Historic Preservation Officer, State of Louisiana).

For the past three years we have conducted hydrographic (digital survey) studies on the Mississippi River in order to confirm the exact sites of the Arizona and other vessels.

The USSACWGF continues to conduct research under the guidelines set by the Naval Historical Center. All our work is conducted by permits granted by the NHC.

All artifacts recovered will stay in Louisiana as part of her great Civil War history.

The USSACWGF is looking for contributors/donors to assist us in our on going research. If anyone has an interest in financial assistance or suggestions please contact us at the Foundation.

Our web page is currently under construction. please be patient.
