Re: Vienna
In Response To: Vienna ()

Vienna is located a few miles due north of Ruston, in what is now Lincoln Parish Louisiana (created in 1873). The village was originally formed in the 1830s, with the post office established in 1839 under the name of "Colvin's Post Office", named after the first postmaster and early settler, Daniel Colvin. This region was originally in Ouachita Parish, but it fell into Union Parish in March 1839, Jackson Parish in 1845, and finally, Lincoln Parish in 1873.

The Confederate post at Vienna was the location at which Lt. Col. George W. Logan formed his 2nd Battalion Louisiana Heavy Artillery in the fall and winter of 1863, and it was also the location of the camp for the Vicksburg parolees in the late 1863-early 1864 period. Also, a Confederate courier line was headquartered at Vienna in 1864 and 1865.
