Steve , thanks for the insite. The last paragraph of your response is exactly where I'm comming from. My ancestors
plantation was also untouched by Banks troops at St.Maurice Plantation,Winn Parish. It is documented that in 1864 during the Red River Campaign six federal gunboats were stationed at St. Maurice ,near the ferry, this is where the Confederates ,under Liddell's command,attacted the gunboats. My ancestor's had a clear view of the battle from the balcony and front steps of the St.Maurice Plantation, which sat on a high bluff. It is also documented that my ancestor sent word to Capt. Raymond H. Perry and Col.Gooding, who in turn sent word to N.P.Banks and saved his troops from an ambush from Liddell's troops who were in waiting. actually saving lives on both sides.
