Capt. John W. Brown, Co. A, 2nd La. Inf.

I am interested in information on Capt. John W. Brown of Company A, "Lecompte Guards", 2nd Louisiana Infantry Regiment. A school teacher, about 22 years of age, John W. Brown enlisted in the 2nd Louisiana Infantry on May 11, 1861 at New Orleans, La. He was seriously wounded at Chancellorsville on May 3, 1863 and was subsequently assigned to conscript duty at Dadeville in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. Capt. Brown was killed in action during Rousseau's Raid at Stowe's Ferry on the Tallapoosa River on July 17, 1864. I believe he was the son of John W. Brown [Sr] with whom he was living in 1860 near Natchitoches, Louisiana. Any additional information would be appreciated. A copy of a wartime photograph of Capt. Brown is eagerly sought.
