"A Confederate training encampment ordered established by Governor Moore in May or June 1862, Camp Pratt was named for Brigadier General John G. Pratt, commander of the 9th Brigade of the Louisiana Militia. The camp of instruction, intended to accommodate Louisiana conscripts residing south of the Red River and west of the Mississippi, was located on Spanish Lake about five miles north of New Iberia in Iberia Parish."
