Re: Wingfield's 3rd Louisiana Calvary

Booth's "Records" shows only a final parole record for Private W. TOWNS. A member of Company I, Wingfield's 3rd Louisiana Cavalry, he was released on parole at Gainesville, Alabama on May 12, 1865 under the terms of surrender signed by Lieutenant General Richard Taylor at Citronelle, Alabama on May 4, 1865. His place of residence was West Feliciana, Louisiana.

The same final parole record appears in Booth's "Records" for a Private T. TOWNS. These two are likely to be related.

This regiment had its origins in the 9th Battalion, Louisiana Partisan Rangers. Company I, Wingfield's 3rd Louisiana Cavalry was initially recruited from East Feliciana Parish, according to Art Bergeron's "Guide to Louisiana Confederate Military Units, 1861-1865" (LSU Press, 1989).
