This is kind of a strange request, but I would be interested in knowing if there was much variation in the color gray and knit of officer's uniforms in the Louisiana militia. I understand that all officers provided their own uniforms and accoutrements, so it seems likely there was perhaps a good deal of non-standard gray in use?
I realize it's a long shot, but is it possible to identify Confederate gray according to modern color standards such as the Pantone Matching System that printers commonly use? Never having seen a genuine Confederate gray uniform, I'd appreciate any thoughts on how to approximate the color and texture using any viable comparison.
