Alexandria - Capt. T. Tonk

This question is for anyone familiar with the old family names of the Alexandria/central La. area.

In one of the records of the expedition to capture USS Indianola, a Capt. T. Tonk is listed as being in charge of one of the boat's guns. This is probably a misspelling or a typographical error on the part of a transcriber/typesetter. No one named Tonk appears in Booth's. And Booth's does have a Tontenot, who is obviously a Fontenot, so mistranscriptions are a common problem.

Anyway, any suggestions as to what Tonk's real name might have been? He may well have been a milita officer, but are there any family names from that area that could be confused with Tonk - Tawnk, Fonk, Tunk, Funk, Folkes, whatever? Since the man was an officer, he would have probably been in the upper layer of society. Any suggestions would be appreciated - solutions will be applauded. (I might even buy you a crawfish dinner at Tunk's Cypress Inn if you can tell me for sure who this guy was.)
