The soldiers in my book state that the camp was 20 miles above Alexandria and 1 mile west of the Red river. The letters also referred to Cotile Landing, now the present day town of Boyce, where Bayou Cotile emptied into the Red river. One soldier adds the camp is 2 miles from Henderson’s Hill, where a cavalry battle was fought a year earlier as a part of the Red River Campaign.

Hot Wells, which was known as Howerton Hill until about 1916, is located at the point where Lake Cotile flows into Bayou Cotile and is about 6 miles west of Boyce.

Since this is Art Bergeron's home territory we should ask if he has anything to add.

Hope this helps.
