Capt. John S. Lanier, staff of Leonidas Polk

Searching for personal letters and journal writings of Capt. John Summerfield Lanier (1839-1900). He served on the staffs of generals Leonidas Polk and Frank Gardner. He was forced to surrender at Port Hudson in 1863. After the war, he was a planter in East Feliciana Parish and was active in politics as a Democrat.
