Can anyone identify the medal on the chest of the man whose image I have (hopefully) put on this page?

He is identified on a web site as Eli Hutchinson, a Union soldier who participated in the Red River Campaign. I would think that the medal on his chest is the Medal of Honor, but I can find no indication that Eli Hutchinson was ever awarded that medal. Am I wrong about the medal ID, and if so, what award does that medal represent?
