I'm writing because I'm researching regimental strengths in the Army of Northern Virginia and the Army of the Potomac for the time period between March and August 1862. I've already exhausted the usual avenues of research such as the Official Records, Battles and Leaders, and even the Southern Historical Society papers. What I specifically would like is information from possible regimental histories or in diaries and letters of men in units. I can't possibly get to all of the available regimental histories out there, but people interested in particular regiments or states such as yourselves usually have the type of info I'm looking for. I don't need casualty reports. I have those also. What I do need is the actual numerical strength of regiments at any time from the period above. Thanks in advance for any replies I receive.
