Re: 1st Louisiana Calvary
In Response To: 1st Louisiana Calvary ()

my gg grand father served as a private co. k 1st la. cal (union)...he joined 3.15.1862. new orleans...he mustered out 8.15.1865,location unknown...his pension # 1148493...on 1.1.1915 he receives $ 19 / mo....on 12.16.1918, # 22.50 / mo...

his name was basil saux, sauce, seaux...all three names are used on various documents throughout his life. he was born in auzas, france in 1842...arrived in new orleans 1860...served the union...died in forked island, la. sept. 1935...buried at cow island, la.,cow island cemetery...
at an unknown battle basil was knocked off his horse by a bullet that struck him below his right eye...he continued the fight but carried the scar for the remainder of his life.

not much is found on co. k and i would like to know who his commanders were, where did he spend the three years, and where he musters out at...also what battle he could have been wounded at....

i don't believe he goes to alabama around 3.18.65. the only thing i found on co. k is at that time they detach to the lake verrett area...

appreciate any help,

regan
