Colonel John Logan's Cavalry (11th and 17th Arkansas Combined Mounted Infantry along with Louisiana and Mississippi Troops) stationed in Clinton, raided the Yankee Depot at Springfield Landing during the seige of Port Hudson. The raiders carried what today we refer to as Molotov Coctails and destroyed a large amount of supplies. Could this be the action to which you are refering?
