30 Day March from LA to MS - need help

I have a 12 page letter written by a NY 2nd Vet Cav soldier that describes a 30 day March from Baton Rouge to somewhere in MS (date range Nov. 27 to Dec. 27 1864). If someone is willing to read through the transcript and help me identify the correct rivers and areas the march covered, I would be forever grateful. I am not familiar with the area described and am having a time trying to figure out the correct spellings.

Example of just one of my problems: Soldier describes a skirmish at Cloud's Mill in Mississippi. Civil War Data System calls the same skirmish McCloud's Mill, MS and history of the NY 2nd Vet Cav calls it a battle at McLeod's Mill, LA. Other problems are the soldier spells many rivers and locations how they sound examples: Langspoho Station, Paschaglia River (I believe this to be Pascagoula). C'Amit River. Maybe his spellings are correct, but unfortunately I'm not sure.

I can send a transcript through the email. The bonus for any helpful takers will be ... the letter is quite interesting and I think you will enjoy reading it!

One other question. The soldier mentions they had a guide with them that use to be a rebel Col. Was this a common practice? I found it strange that an ex-confederate officer would be working for the Union.

Thanks in advance for any offers to help. I will also post this on the Mississippi board. Someone on that board might be interested in the MS part of the march.
