My book The Defense of Vicksburg: A Louisiana Chronicle tell the story of the Louisiana solders who fought at Vicksburg and includes Thomas’ 28th Louisiana.

The 28th was part of Shoup’s Brigade and were on the left of the 26th LA in the trenches. Gen. Thomas also became the commander of the Louisiana Brigade, made up of Louisian solders paroled at Vicksburg and Port Hudson living in Louisiana west of the Mississippi river, after they were exchanged until the end of the war.

Let me know if I can be of any additional help.
