OK you guys, I have read this entire thread on William Henry Kings civil war journal. First I would like to say, he was my g/grandfather & I am very proud to have this as well as very greatful to Clifton, Gary & Marilyn. I am the one that gave permission to Clifton Cardin & Gary Joiner to edit this journal for publication. I saw where someone else said he had thought about it, well first you would have to have permission. I had to write a letter of consent. Clifton & Gary were very good in keeping me informed as it went along. I gave them a lot of info as well as his picture that is on the cover & inside the book with his daughter, my grandmother, grandfather & their family as it was in 1900. My mother was the youngest child & not yet born, wish she had been in it.
I read where someone said he was a complainer. When I first read the original my thought was that he was extremely opiniated. My husband said that was a trait alive & well today. No doubt I was encluded.
Truth is his title was "A Journal of Camp Life as a Private Soldier". In that regard it was exactly that, not a story of battle. He told his story as he saw it & quite well at that. If you read the book I believe you will agree that he was an exceptional human being with a vocabulary & insite that most of the officers in that war did not possess.
This is only a fraction of how I feel about this but enough is enough.
Please buy the book!!
