Re: 19th Louisiana Infantry
In Response To: 19th Louisiana Infantry ()

The flag was not surrendered but brought home by Col. Camp Flournoy of Greenwood, LA, the last commander of the 19th, and given to the LeRoy Stafford Camp (No. 2) of the UCV here in Shreveport. There is a picture of the flag along with the flag of the 3rd LA on one of the composite pictures of the members of the camp. There is also a picture of these flags on a post card titled “The Boys in Gray and the Boys of Today” that has a number of cadets from Capt. Thatcher’s Academy and the veterans.

The flag disappeared when the old soldiers died off and the camp dissolved. The records of the camp are in the Shreve Memorial Library but they know nothing of the flag. I ran across an article in a Shreveport newspaper from the early 1930 looking for the flag for the reunion of the veterans in Shreveport so it has been missing for some time.

I feel sure that someone has it and either does not know they have it or what it is or they do know what it is and will never admit to having it. It may come up for sale one day.

I too would very much like to know where the flag is and what it looks like now.
