My ancestor was in the Iowa 15th Infantry and fought at Vicksburg. In one of his letters he states he went on an "Expedition to Monroe, La, August 20 - Sep 2, 1863. I have tried finding out the history of this expedition, it's purpose, it's outcome, etc. to no avail. Is there anybody who might know why the Yankees would go to Monroe, Louisiana after the Battle of Vicksburg? Thanks. Jack McLaughlin
