Hello Randy, Thanks for the response. No I haven't been to Camp Moore yet, but it's on my list of future adventures. I did get to go to Vicksburg recently and toured the battlegrounds including the area near the graveyard road and the stockade redan where the 27th was stationed.

I recently purchased the "Guide to Louisiana Confederate Military Units 1861-1865" by Arthur W. Bergeron, Jr. His account is brief but very interesting and gives more detail about what the 27th did before and after Vicksburg than the other accounts that I find on the web. I have also searched through the volumes collected by Andrew Booth for the records of soldiers specific to Company I.

One of my ancestors was John Washington Shows (3rd great-uncle). His record states that he enlisted at Camp Moore 9-22-1862, served with Co. I, 27th La Infantry at Vicksburg, was paroled after the surrender. Later, in April 1864 he was listed on the rolls with the 27th La Volunteers and again paroled on June 8, 1865. He resided at Blanchard, north of Shreveport in Caddo Parish.

I would love to know more about the boys from Caddo Pa. who joined the Caddo Confederates. If you have the time, please, let me know if you think any of the books you have at the museum might have more information about the 27th? If you can tell me the name of the book, perhaps I will be able to locate the same book at the Library in Shreveport.
