The following from Tom Arliskas' Cadet Gray and Butternut Brown (Thomas, 2006) might be of interest:

"At the Battle of Kelly's Ford in November of 1863, members of Hay's Louisiana Brigade shocked their Yankee captors with fine new uniforms:

The Prisoners taken here were better clothed then any we had seen before. All were provided with overcoats and jackets of a much better material than our own. They were made of English manufacture, much darker than the United States uniform, and this furnished conclusive evidence of successful blockade running."
