Re: 17th LA, Co. H Morehouse Southrons

You folks are wonderful! I do have the info from his headstone, and all it mentions is "FORMBY Columbus Franklin 1843 to 1905

h/o Allie COPELAND; kn/ch Ruth Dixon, Nobie Lee & Eloise" (someone there checked the cemetary book for me). He did not have brothers of the right age to have served, since he was the oldest and was himself only 18 in 1861. The Formby family has never been a large one, and I have managed to track about 54 "cousins" who served...all in the CSA..it seems that all that were of an age to do so, did. CF DID have two cousins (Henry and Walker Formby) who were with the 9th Infantry, Co. A "Moore Fencibles", from Claiborne Parish, but most of my ancestors were in GA and AR regiments. I will try posting this on the TX board as well, thanks! I have plenty of genealogical info, etc., but my problem here is in trying to attach the "CF Formby" in the 17th to "my" Columbus Franklin.....my family seemed to like to name cousins after each other, but in this one, it seems he is the ONLY Columbus Franklin, or even the only one with those initials, so there is the circumstantial evidence, but I need hard proof.

Thanks again for all your help!
