Jamie, Great. This is getting more and more complicated! I am trying to track down the final resting place for a Pvt. John W. Hunter. He was killed in action while serving with the 21st Mississippi at Cold Harbor, VA in 1864. Although Cold Harbor is considered a victory by Lee, Grant occupied the field after the battle. Union dead were buried in what would become a national cemetery, but the Confederate dead were not interred there. He was either buried someplace else by local civilians there in VA,(still working on that angle) or the family had the body returned home. That's the problem. He'd transferred from the 21st LA to the 21st Miss., so I figured that I'd try to check out possible "hometown" cemeteries in his LA parish. That was the reason for my inquiry. I don't KNOW his hometown. Here in Ohio, the volunteer regiments were recruited almost exclusively in their hometowns or immediately-adjacent farms. It was very rare to have "outsiders" join (except for "bounty-soldiers"). I'll still "search" the Orleans Parish cemeteries, but your revelation has widened my "search circle" significantly!!!! I really do appreciate your information. All of this research is being done long-distance, and I'm learning as I go. Thanks for your help! Dave
