Captain William A. Whitaker commanded Company C, 7th Louisiana Cavalry Regiment. He and men from his company, as well as men from Company A, made raids into the Bayou Lafourche region in late 1864 and early 1865. As stated in my book, "These raids had as their objective the acquisition of horses and supplies as well as the harassment of the enemy." The men returned to the regiment and were paroled in south Louisiana at the end of the war.
