This man appears under the name 'H. Gooden' on the 1880 census of Lincoln Parish LA, born NC, parents born in Virginia and Maryland. He appears on the 1870 and 1860 census schedules of Jackson Parish LA. In 1860 Goodwin gives his occupation as carriage maker.

At age 41 when Abraham Lincoln was elected, this man is a bit old to have been a soldier. I find nothing in Booth's Register under his name or that of John W. Goodwin, who may be a younger brother, also born in NC and a resident of Jackson Parish.
