Re: port hudson national cemetary

George,
A few years ago I found five Confederate markers in the Alexandria National Cemetery in Pineville, La. On closer examination, I found that all five men had served in US Colored Troops units. Intrigued, I asked the nearby maintenance man about this. Turned out, the original markers for these men had been in rough shape, so replacement stones were ordered. Confederate stones were sent, with the original unit inscriptions engraved. So the "Confederates" under these markers were actually US soldiers. The stones have since been replaced by US stones, but only because of my noticing the error. Had a few years gone by and the maintenance man not remembered the situation, no telling if the problem would ever have been corrected.
