Thanks Hugh. Let me explain why I thought the La. Legion might be the third brigade. There is plenty of documentation of the French Brigade and European Brigade -- but I have yet to find solid reference to what unit was the third brigade of foreigners. The reason I thought it might be the Louisiana Legion is because that unit did contain a number of foreign troop units in fall 61 and spring 62, such as the French Legion (before it transferred to the French Brigade), and Belgian Infantry (according to Booth). Further, Picayune called the commanders of the three brigades as "Three Guardsmen of the Crescent City," and noted they were selected from French residents of New Orleans. BG Dr. James Trudeau would fit that profile. I'll keep searching.
