You may want to note that this Company C, listed in this man's file, was called the Natchitoches Rangers. You can learn more about them in Dr. Art Bergeron's Guide To Louisiana Confederate Military Units 1861-1865. You may find more on this man through the Parish records knowing where his company was from.
This man's unit did fight, dismounted, at Mansfield but here is the catch. While your ancestor may have fought there you won't be able to say for certain unless you see where he was present for duty with his unit during that time frame. Of course, if he was wounded that would provide proof. Assuming that his service record is intact. Cavalry units were famous for their poor record keeping.
I am assuming the man listed above is your ancestor because at the National Archives and in Booth's Record of Louisiana Confederate Soldiers he is the only "Capps, S." that is listed in Vincent's 2nd La. Cav.
