I am trying to locate the oil painting of Gen. Joseph Lancaster Brent, CSA. Any help would be appreciated.
General Brent had a daughter, Nanine, who married Joseph Sloo of New Orleans. Nanine Sloo died in 1954. She is the last person I know of to own the portrait. Her only son died young, probably before having any children, so as far as I have been able to determine she had no immediate heirs. I would suspect the portrait went to some niece, nephew, or cousin. She was related to the Kenner family, and possibly to the Bringiers as well.
A photo of the painting is in Brent's memoirs, but does anyone know what became of the original?
