The Louisiana in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Don Louis Deville
In Response To: Re: Jayhawker ()

Monterey,

If you don't mind me asking, is your interest in the pension file of Neville Johnson directly related to the comments Captain Sameul Haas made regarding Don Louis Deville? I have attempted to reply to Mr. Bergeron, though unsuccessfully, to offer clarification concerning the Deville brothers. I'm sure the webmaster will sort the posting problem out eventually. Don Louis DeVille and Louis Paul DeVille III were brothers, and both served in Company K, 3rd LA Cavalry. While both of these brothers had “Louis” as part of their names, only Louis P. DeVille was called Louis (“Louie”). Both brothers are buried in the Jeansonne-Johnson Cemetery off Hwy 167 in Turkey Creek, LA. The grave marker for the elder brother, Louis P. Deville, reads “Louis DeVille”, while the marker for his younger brother, Don Louis DeVille, reads “Don L. Deville”. Don Louis Deville died in 1898, and his wife, Caroline Hebert Deville died in 1882, so neither filed confederate pensions. If your interest is in Louis P. Deville, I will be happy to provide what information I receive from his CMSR and pension file.

I included some civil war oral history pertaining to these brothers in my post to Mr. Bergeron. If it shows up on the board in the future, it may be of interest to you.
