Mr. Cosby,

Thanks for your input; sorry for this late response; have been out of town. Last year I did some research at Camp Moore, joined the Friends of Camp Moore, and have received the newsletter. Have meant to find your name to inquire about a headstone for Pinkney May as the volunteer that day was uncertain that anything could be done without letters proving his burial there.

I now have Pinkney May's service record, which shows his enlistment on Sept. 29, 1861, and his death on Oct. 21, 1861. There is no record or recollection from anyone in the family that he was taken home to Jackson Parish for burial. He is not buried in the Hickory Springs Cemetery where his parents and brother William R. May and other relatives are buried. His mother's headstone is marked 1857, so we feel sure that Pinkney would've had a marker if he were buried there. What would it take to get a marker for him at Camp Moore.

For about 2 1/2 years I've been talking to my mom, uncle, brothers, and first cousins about this and about perhaps buying a brick for our ggf William R. May. Most of us will probably meet in Mobile in May, so any information you can provide will be passed on to them.

Linda Lynn
