Thank you for that info, I'm only going by what I was told and read. I certainly did not want to come off as a racist and I apologize totally. As my original message stated I was told by him. He did provide me with a web link from a website that did state what he told me including a story regarding placing whiskey barrels over Acadians to "break them in" after they ran away.

Yes you are right regarding desertion rates being the same for other ethnic groups as the Civil War had the highest desertion rate of any war the USA fought in.

Being a history buff I already knew of the Acadians plight being forced from their original home in the 1700's. I believe possibly some 700,000 moving to LA late 1700's. With the rest relocating in Canada. After being a French Colony and then English, it would only stand to reason that they would be slightly negative to slavery.

However I stand corrected and hope you accept my apologies. This post was about finding who owned this knife and not to get anyone angry.
