Ed, The Cajun fighting man's record is indeed good. See "Lee's Tigers". 2nd LA was there in VA and PA (Culp's Hill). Of course the War happened here in LA as well. Cajun solders,notably the Yellow Jackets are remembered here for a frontal assault at the Battle of Mansfield in April 1864. The charge led to the rout of the Union Army there. General Banks turned his Army around and headed back down the Red River, failing to obtain Shreveport, LA, gateway to Texas. The Red River Campaign of 1864 ordered by Lincoln and Halleck was deemed a debacle in Washington. The Cajun fighting man, along with his Anglo-Saxon compatriots did not wince at being outnumbered. The 2nd Louisiana visited Washinton, DC late in the War as you may know. They were not tourists.
