ancestor search

I have an old letter stating John Singleton Finley from Elmwood (Vernon Parish) Lousiana fought for the Confederate army. He was wounded at Vicksburg, Mississippi by a piece of shell weighing three quarters of a pound. It passed through the calves of both legs. The letter states "he would have died but for the goodness of his captain."

He received some kind of pension from the war. They moved into Little River County Arkansas at some point.

I don't know his father's name and was hoping it told that on some of his military papers.

Any help would be appreciated.
