Jim,

I'd have to say from Terry Jones' description of the fighting in his outstanding book, "Lee's Tigers: The Louisiana Infantry in the Army of Northern Virginia", that I'd have to put Port Republic, June 9, 1862, in the mix. Some of the Louisiana participants were quoted as saying it was the hardest fighting of the war for the 1st Louisiana Brigade.
